Dillon has started on rice at about 14 months old, where he showed dislikes towards porridge. He would normally have rice with soups and the soup ingredients (like potatoes, carrots, chicken or pork meat, old cucumber etc), sometimes also with scrambled eggs, fried fish etc.
We would prepare soup on alternate days and on days that we don't have soup, he will have his rice with steam eggs, steam fish/meat/chicken, potatoes with meat in gravy etc.

1. Buy the clean anchovies (without head & dirt), wash & drain well.
2. Evenly spread out on a plate & put in the microwave.
3. Set on “High Temperature” for about 2 minutes, then check if the anchovies has turned golden brown; if not then baked for another 2 minutes. (adjust the timing accordingly)
4. The anchovies is “done” when it turn golden brown & crispy.
Method 2 (If you do not have a microwave at home)
1. Wash & drain the anchovies.
2. Heat up the anchovies in non-stick pan, keep stirring so that the heat is evenly spread.
3. Continue until the anchovies turn golden brown & crispy.
*You may add a little bit of oil for frying if you want to.
*I personally never try Method 2 and I think using the microwave is the fastest & easiest method.
Final Step: Blend the crispy anchovies until it becomes powder form, keep in airtight container & it can last for weeks. Just ensure the spoon is dry & clean when scooping out the anchovies powder for cooking. It’s ok to either store at room temperature or in the fridge.
It can be used for soup when preparing noodles for baby, or even add into the porridge for greater taste.
When Dillon was around 10 months plus, he started to show dislike to pureed food & cereals; he wanted something more chewy and thus I've introduced the following food to him.
1. Break the meesua into shorter lengths.
2. Put minced chicken meat or pork or fish paste into adequate amount of water.
3. Add in meesua, & chopped spinach or bo choy, even tofu cubes.
4. Add in anchovies powder, stir well & it's ready to served.
*Other variants include Pan Mee, Soy Mee, KuayTeow, Loh Shi Fun, which need to be cut into smaller pieces for babies who can't chew well yet.
*You may replace the meat/fish paste with eggs, for babies below age 1, use only egg white.
*For older babies, you may flavour the soup with a pinch of salt, or a bit of soy sauce instead of anchovies powder.
*You can also prepare the anchovies stock beforehand if you don't have anchovies powder.
As an alternative to baby rice cereal, I also feed oatmeal to Dillon.
The oat I used is Quaker's Rolled Oats, it's better to start baby on Rolled Oats than instant or quick cooked oatmeal, find out why here.
Oatmeal with Milk
1. Cook 2-3 table spoon of rolled oats in adequate amount of water for about 15 minutes, keep stirring so that it won't stick to the pot.
2. Add in 2 scoops (or more) of formula milk powder & turn off heat immediately.
3. Blend or puree the mixture until a smooth consistency is achieved.
Oatmeal with Bananas
Same as above. Just add in slices of banana before the formula milk powder. Blend or puree the mixture & serve warm.
- mix these combos into plain Yogurt or Cereal or just mix 'em and serve!
- same method as how we prepare the applesauce, except that bananas need no cooking at all.

*Let baby first try out & taste on each single fruit puree before introducing fruits combo to them.

1. Peel & puree the mango until the proper consistency is achieved.
2. Scoop out half cup (one cup is 150g) of plain yogurt with a clean spoon, put into baby's serving bowl.
3. Mix in adequate amount of mango puree & it's ready to serve.
*May substitute with Apples & Pears, Apples & Plum, Papaya, Kiwi; but Dillon's favourite are still Mango & Kiwi yogurt.
*Keep the balance half cup of yogurt back in fridge, ideally to be consumed within the next day.
*Buy the cup yogurt that comes with plastic cap for easier storage.
*Do not warm the yogurt for serving, if you are concern about baby taking cold yogurt, scoop out the yogurt & mix with fruit puree before you start feeding a meal to baby, cover & leave it at room temperature. By the time baby finishes the meal (about half hour), the yogurt is just nice to be served.
I introduced yogurt to Dillon when he was around 8 months old. It may be introduced as early as 7 months old but the typical age recommendation is 8 months old, depending on your baby’s pediatrician and your baby’s propensity to allergies. Read the Yogurt Tips article if you have doubt.
Yogurt is a great way for baby to get calcium and the “bacteria” in yogurt that is so good for our digestive systems. Yogurt is also a great way for baby to get the fat that is so highly needed during baby’s first year.
Dillon has been fine since I fed him yogurt, just that after taking yogurt, he tends to have more bowel movement (not stomach discomfort) on that day, which is perfectly normal. Having said that, it might help baby who experience constipation problem too.
However, I think it should be fed moderately to baby, normally I would only feed yogurt twice a week at most to Dillon.
The following recipes are using whole eggs hence are suitable for babies above a year old.
1. In a microwaveable container, whisk an egg with 1 tbsp (15 ml) formula milk or water.
2. Cover with plastic wrap leaving a small steam vent.
3. Microwave on HIGH (100% power) for 45 to 60 seconds, stirring twice during cooking. Let stand, covered, for 1 minute.
4. If desired, add grated cheese, chopped vegetables (tomatoes would be a good choice) or meat before cooking.
*You may also use a non-stick frying pan to prepare the dish, with a little bit of butter or oil.
1. In a shallow bowl, beat 2 eggs with 1/2 cup (125 ml) of formula milk.
2. Dip 4 slices of bread, one at a time, into egg mixture.
3. Melt 1 tbsp butter over medium heat. Place dipped bread in and shallow-fry until golden, turn and cook other side.
4. To serve, cut into small pieces, makes good finger food for the babies.
*You may substitute formula milk with plain white sugar for older babies if desired.
Egg yolk is a nutrient-rich food that can be added to baby’s diet at the same time as meat and other meat alternatives. Egg white however, should be added when baby is 12 months & above, because egg white has a higher tendency of causing allergy to baby below a year old. Ensure that your baby enjoys eggs that are well-cooked as the immune system continues to develop at this stage of life. Read more about the allergy here.
Add cooked egg yolk to baby’s diet gradually. Hard cook the egg yolk, then mash and mix with a little breast milk or infant formula. If baby doesn’t like this texture, mix the raw yolk with a little breast milk or infant formula and cook in the microwave.Do not add salt, sugar, butter or margarine to the egg yolk. Let your baby enjoy the natural flavours of single foods. When baby has accepted the cooked egg yolk, try stirring it into other foods baby likes, such as cereal, pureed meat or vegetables or try sprinkling hard-cooked egg yolk over mashed potatoes.
Pasta with Tomato sauce
1. Cook pasta (spaghetti or fettuccine etc) according to package directions & drain well.
2. Melt butter, stir-fry minced meat (chicken, pork or beef), chopped or sliced button mushroom (fresh or canned).
3. Add in tomato paste & chopped fresh tomatoes.
4. Add in cheese at last & stir thoroughly.
5. Pour on the pasta or toss the pasts in the sauce & serve.
*Break the pasta into shorter lengths before cooking (easier) so that you don't have to worry if baby can't chew or digest well.
*Stir-fry chopped garlic with the sauce for more fragrant if your baby can take it.
*For a simpler version (lazy version, hehe), just use the bottled/canned paste sauce. :)
Mac-n-Cheese with Macaroni
1. Cook macaroni according to package directions & drain well.
2. Melt cheeses (Cheddars and other stronger cheeses may be used according to baby’s age/taste preferences) and stir thoroughly while cooking.
3. Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of formula milk when cheeses are melted and stir thoroughly
4. As baby gets older and eats more table foods, you can also add meats and veggies as well – these additional chunkier foods will enable easier pick-up for tiny fingers
1. Cook ditalini (small round rings of pasta, easy to pick up for 10 months and older) pasta according to package directions
2. Drain pasta well
3. Place pasta in a bowl and toss with butter and grated cheeses, cubed cooked veggies, cubed cooked meats or whatever your imagination & baby’s age/taste desires.
4. Serve in bowl or on baby tray.
*Can always substitute with any other shaped pasta. :)
Some might think that it is not necessary at all to cook fruits but to me, I did (except for certain fruits like banana, papaya, honeydew, kiwi & mango, which doesn't need cooking) until Dillon turns 10 months plus, then I only feed him raw fruits. If you have doubt, read more about cooking fruits here.
Applesauce/ Pureed apples
1. Peel, core and cut apple into slices/chunks
2. Place slices or chunks into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover apples
3. Boil/steam until tender;
4. Reserve any remained water to use for blending & thinning out the apples
5. Puree the apples with the remained water.
*You may feed as it is or add in to plain rice cereal, baby would love the natural sweetness.
*You may add in pear or plum to make a combo, taste great too.
*You can cook more and divide into 2 or 3 portion, stored in individual container & freeze it. Thaw & warm up a bit before serving.
1. Core apple and leave peel on
2. Place a wee bit of butter (if baby is ready for or has had dairy) on the inside of the cored apple (sprinkle a bit of cinnamon in the apple if your desire and if baby is ready for or has had cinnamon)
3. Place in a pan with just enough water to slightly cover apples – about an inch of water
4. Bake in a 400-degree oven for 30 mins or until tender; check on the water level.
5. Once baked, either cut apple into little bits and serve as a finger food or mash as directed above in the Applesauce recipe.
Here is a similar dish to the mashed potato, suitable for baby 8-9 months old & above.
Chicken & Potato Chowder
Diced and cooked boneless breast or ground chicken
Cubed and cooked potato
Shredded mild cheddar or american cheese
1/4 cup formula milk
2 tsp butter
1) Mix chicken, potato, milk, and butter in a small saucepan.
2) Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
3) Stir in cheese. Add infant cereal by tablespoons until you get your desired thickness.
4) Mash or puree to desired consistency. Cool before serving.
Ok this would be the 1st recipe I'm going to share in this blog. Since there are many different baby food recipes for babies at different age, I thought I'll start with my son Dillon's favourite solid food.
This is suitable for baby from 6 months & above.
Mashed Potato Combo
Potato, Carrots (or Pumpkin), Broccoli (or Cauliflower), Lean Chicken Meat.
1. Cook everything in adequate amount of water.
2. Blend the mixture together with the remained cooking water to the consistency desired when cooked.
3. No need flavouring.
*Remove the meat if baby is under 9 months old or you just don't wish to feed baby with it. Read more about when to start feeding meat here.
*You can cook more and divide into 2 or 3 portion, stored in individual container & freeze it. Thaw in the fridge a night before use & warm up again before feeding.
*Add in cheese when feeding if desired. Cheese may be introduced as early as 8 months providing there are no dairy allergies. Read more about cheese here.
* You may just prepare plain mashed potato only but I find it taste much better when combined with other vegetables or meat.

When my son Dillon first started on solid food, I did a lot of searching on the web to prepare for it. Besides feeding him the cereals, I actually hunted for the baby food recipes & try to homemade it myself. Thus I've compiled a document with all my findings (all copy & paste job lah, haha) for my own reference & also for sharing with other mummies who are interested, esp those members in the Meadjohnson forum.
In view of the popular request from the forum members (cheh....... thick skin!), Vicky actually suggested me to put the recipe in the blog so that everyone can access easily & also save me work to email each of them upon request, what a good idea!
Anyway, there isn't anything great or special about the baby food that I prepared (nothing that you don't already know) so don't put too much expectation on me ya. It's actually more like a guide or reference to the new mummies who wanted to start giving solid food to their babies.
So stay tuned while I'm working on transferring the content here.

Just attended a Malay wedding of my colleague and this is the 1st time I'm attending a Malay wedding reception in the evening, normally it'd be held in the afternoon isn't it?
Anyway, the reception was held at Bukit Kerinchi Community Hall and the place is very new & nice. I reached there around 8.30pm and the "bersanding" started at 8.45pm. Dinner is served at 9.10pm, consider quite punctual as the invitation card state it'd start at 9pm. Since the dishes are already pre-served on the table, around 9.40pm, most people is already done with the dinner and started leaving the hall, including me as well.
This is definitely the shortest wedding dinner I've been to, short & sweet. :) I wish the newly wed couple a happy & long lasting marriage.

I was first tagged by Judy and then Chinnee on this food tag, so I've decided to combine & write about my favourite food - Pan Mee of 2 different places, ok la hor? :)
Firstly is the normal Pan Mee Soup/Dried Pan Mee. This stall is located in a coffee shop (sorry didn't notice the name) at Damansara Uptown (same row with TM point), apparently the people who stay in PJ/Damansara area said that this stall is very famous. The business is good as you can see the uncle (boss) non stop preparing the pan mee especially during lunch time. The pan mee texture is smooth yet "Q" (not lembit), the chili is so pedas & the soup taste good as well. It is served with the normal ingredients i.e. wood ear slices, minced pork, fu chok, fried anchovies & vegetables. The portion is very big but only priced at RM3.50 per bowl. I normally would go for Pan Mee soup & hubby would prefer the dried one.

Now the next would be Kin Kei Chili Pan Mee, the shop is located along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (behind Honda showroom). This place is also very famous in KL and everytime I go also it'd be very packed esp on weekends.
They also serve pan mee in soup or dried but the famous is the dried one, the soup is so so only. What make it so famous & special is actually the dried chili flakes they prepared. The dried pan mee is not tossed with dark soy sauce as usual, instead we will add in scoops of dried chili flakes & toss it ourselves before eating, it's so yummy yet so pedas gile. The ingredients include minced pork, pork meat, fried anchovies, vegetables & poached egg. The portion is very small but it's selling at RM4.60 per bowl, normally the guys would have to order 2 bowls to fill their stomach. It is something worth trying, if you don't mind the price & the waiting time, at times the boss is also very cocky, hahaha. LOL

Tagged again by Lovelymummy within the same week. This tag is straight forward & simple, but easy for me as I don't hate my hubby for anything, otherwise I wouldn't be with him still..... :P
Well anyway, must still "try my best" to complete this tag..... Ok, 10 things that I hate (more to things that he pissed me off) about my hubby:
1) He doesn't like to join me in any occasions organised by my friends or colleagues that he doesn't know well, but he usually tolerates with me.
2) He is a late riser. He sleeps very late & will only wake up after 2pm the earliest on a typical weekend. So I'll always have to eat my breakfast & lunch alone.
3) If his friends call him out, he would mostly join them but if I ask him to go somewhere with me, he always say lazy to go out.
4) Almost everyday after work, he will still need to sit in front of the PC & work from home, including weekends sometimes.
5) Besides working, he spend most of his time at home surfing net, reading & posting in forums, downloading movies etc.
6) He doesn't take initiative to help to look after Dillon unless I ask.
7) He will not care & listen to what I say when he is angry with me, but we usually do not carry an argument to the next day.
8) He remembers my birthday, our anniversary but he won't plan anything for it, no presents or surprises as well, he is not a romantic type of person.
9) He would look more macho without the 3-layer tummy but I actually feel quite comfy also when hugging him, haha, natural cushion.
10) Last but definitely not least is his smoking habit. I don't know what to elaborate about this anymore.

Pork chop, big onion, garlic (this will go well with chicken chop version as well) :)
1. Wash pork chops, pat the meat with the back of knife.
2. Slice 1/2 of the big onion, and chop the garlic.
3. Marinade the pork meat with light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil & white pepper. Add in slices of onions & chopped garlic too.
4. Shallow fry the marinated pork chop on slow fire until it's cooked, add a bit of water & keep covered for a while & serve in gravy.

Each employee will receive 104 personal days a year. They are called Saturday & Sunday.
This is no excuse for missing work. There is nothing you can do for dead friends, relatives or co-workers. Every effort should be made to have non-employees attend to the arrangements.
In rare cases where employee involvement is necessary, the funeral should be scheduled in the late afternoon. We will be glad to allow you to work through your lunch hour and subsequently leave one hour early.

The MeadJohnson representative just called me int he afternoon to tell me that my issues has been solved. The have managed to restore all my posts in the forum and I'm so glad about their effort and service.
I couldn't believe that I've actually got 1011 posts in total, ever since I became a member back in August 2006..... it's a lot more than I've initially thought. Seems like I'm really kepoh & like to write things, otherwise how could I reached that figure? hahaha LOL.

Well for the working mum in Malaysia, we'll only get 60 days of maternity leave, which I think it's really minimal.
As what I know it is different in many other countries; take our neighbour Singapore as an example, they are given 3 months of maternity leave and if one decided or have been asked to return work after the 2nd month, the company might pay double to that employee (where they reimburse from the government later) if I'm not mistaken. In some Europe countries or in the States, it would be of a different policy.
It is good to know that our Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is now attempting to get the Cabinet’s approval to extend maternity leave up to 84 days for women at work. It'd be great if it's approved but who knows how long will that take. Haha, it might not "benefit" me after all... ;)

I'm so sad.....
Following my previous post regarding the problem I had in the MeadJohnson Forum I used to visit & post regularly, there is still no news from them, though the IT person promised to solve it or at least give me an update on Monday. I reported this back in 27th April & it's been more than 10 days & my guts feeling is that they'll never be able to trace back all my missing posts....
What can I do? Just wait for them to come back to me loh......

I'm the youngest in my family & I admitted that I have been spoiled. Frankly speaking, I never really appreciate what my mum has done for me as I have been used to it; but if she didn't so something for me or didn't do it well, I would be mad at her.
After I became a mummy to Dillon, only then I realized how great is a mother's love and my relationship with mum has improved as well.
Just about a month before the Chinese New Year, my mum got hit by stroke and was bed ridden for a month, there were a couple of times where she had difficulty in breathing & nearly died. I was so scared & was praying every day & night for her to recover. At that point in time only I know how much I love my mum & how scare I am to lose her.
Thank God she fought it through & she is in a much better condition now, though not fully recovered but doctor said we should be grateful already due to her age. She can walk slowly but not like before, we no longer go to market & have breakfast every Saturday morning like we used to.... She used to be a good cook but she is not cooking anymore, it makes me miss her cooking so much now......But thank God that she is still around.
I've not yet planned anything for her on this coming Mother's day but everyday I pray for good health & happiness in her life. She will be turning 70 this year. :)

If you noticed the header of this blog, you'll find that I've just added a ticker today which keeps track of my anniversary. As I was creating it just now, I only realised that tomorrow would be my anniversary day already!!!
Oh my, I've been really absent minded lately. Anyway, there will not be any form of celebration or presents "as usual", so it's actually "no big deal" also even if I forget about it.... Even hubby will most likely have forgotten about it, I think I can bet for that, sigh.... who ask me to have married a not so romantic guy so can't ask for more loh... :)

Chicken thigh, shallots & turmeric powder
1. Marinade chicken pieces with a pinch of salt, chopped shallots & turmeric powder (may add crushed tumeric as well) for an hour.
2. Heat wok with oil and shallow fry the chicken mixture until cooked.
Not only the chicken is yummy but the fried shallots too, it's my favourite. But be careful when preparing this dish as the turmeric powder & oil can stain our clothes and it's quite difficult to wash off.
What's on my dinner table tonight?
There are Tumeric Chicken, Omelette with French Beans, Stir-fry Vegetable with garlic (siew pak choy) & White Radish soup. As for Dillon, he is having rice with soup, white radish & omelette, however, he doesn't seem to like today's soup very much. His favourite soup is definitely ABC soup because he loves potatoes & tomatoes.

Well I have been an active member in MeadJohnson forum for many months and I've been posting & sharing ideas there very often.
Last week when I was browsing the site as usual, I realised that all my previous posts have gone missing & only those that I posted on that day remained, which is a total of 7 posts only! Oh my, where did the few hundred other posts gone to?
I reported this to the web admin immediately & they promised to rectify the problem asap but till today, I still didn't hear anything from them, sigh.... looks like it's "colder than water" la (very slim chance)
I would be really upset if they are not able to trace back & restored all my posts, well I'm not saying that my posts are very valuable to all, but to me that few hundred posts are like my baby. ;(

I've mentioned about this pod peas in my previous recipe post on Chinese Soups and it was sad that I wasn't able to tell the exact name or describe how it looks.
Therefore the best way is to snap a picture & share it here so that everybody has a better idea of what kind of pod peas I was talking about.
This pod peas is great for making soup with chicken carcass, as well as cooking porridge for babies. It is sweet & will become very soft once cooked, taste yummy.

We have heard & seen so many promos way before this blockbuster movie is in the cinema. It's really not exaggerating that the tickets were are sold out few days prior to the actual show time.
We manage to grab our tickets for a 5pm show today at Leisure Mall and this must also thank to one of our friends who actually sacrifice his sleep & went to buy the tickets on Sunday morning. It was clearly a full house show & the seats we had in the center row wasn't too bad; but I wonder how could the people sitting in the first 2 rows stretch their neck for 2.5 hours to "enjoy" the movie?
The movie itself is very entertaining & exciting I think, esp the 2 spidey's villains. I particularly like the special effects of Sandman; Venom was cool but its appearance was a bit too short.
So what's next in my movie-to-watch list? Of course none other than Captain Jack Sparrow. :)
